Are You Guilty of These 3 Website Sins?

Use Them and Lose Sales!

You are busy and do almost everything at your business. I get it. You work a lot of hours and still try to find some time to stay in shape and see your family and friends a little more. And with all of this activity, I’m sure you posted an initial Website just to get things moving – purchasing high-end services from a tech company will come later.

This is all fine, but I want you to take a look at your Website. Whether you spent money to have it produced, or did it yourself, here are….

3 Website Sins to Avoid:

1. Stop Talking About Yourself!

Me, Me, Me, Me! Does your Website talk about how great your business is and how we did this, and we offer that, and we won this?

Then congratulations, you have what I like to call a “We” site. Please take a moment to change this. Your customers want to know what’s in it for them. Instead of focusing on your products and features, highlight the benefits and solutions you offer customers.

2. Avoid eye-popping videos, sound and graphics!

Gee. Your site looks really cool with videos, sound effects and graphics all over the place. That’s what you think.

Instead of being “cool,” you are actually causing distractions, and site visitors don’t know what to look at first – or they leave the site immediately because it’s so annoying. Get rid of all the graphics and “extra stuff” and focus on one message and call-to-action.

What is the single thing you want people to do when they come to your Home or landing page? Focus on that, and you will see sales increase.

3. Your content is bad.

Did you really look at the content, or copy, on your site after you posted it? Are there misspellings and grammatical errors?

You may have been in such a big hurry to post your new site that you missed some important mistakes. These are easy to fix and make your site look much more professional.

But in addition to the blatant errors, what does your site really say? Did you have any outsiders take a look at it and give their opinions?

You want to give a good first-impression, but if your Website does not offer the right message to your target market about your business, site visitors will go to the competition. Writing good, marketing language for a Website takes time and expertise.

If your site needs work, the best thing to do is a hire a professional, content writer to help you. But if you can’t afford that, look for marketing students at a local college or check online freelance sites for inexpensive freelancers. Note that you usually get what you pay for, but at least you’ll have an actual “writer” helping you as you start out.

This is just the beginning…

Obviously, these are just three things you can do to make your Website better, but it’s a start. After all, your Website is a major marketing tool, and you should give it the attention it deserves.

As a new business owner, do what you can to make your site easy for potential customers to understand. Let them know how you can solve their problems in a matter of seconds. Get rid of mistakes and “flash.” And provide valuable, easy-to-read information.

By avoiding the three sins mentioned above, your Website will be in much better shape to bring in new sales.
