A Ghostwriter’s Insights on Ghosting
Lack of response kills sales and relationships.
I’m back in the dating world after quite some time and have discovered that ghosting is a big thing. If someone starts a chat and then realizes that they’re not interested, bored, have better things to do, want to play videos games… they just stop communicating. It’s extremely childish and rude. But for self-centered, immature people, it’s the easy way to get out of the situation ASAP.
This whole new process got me thinking, though…
Are you ghosting customers and potential clients and patients?
As an entrepreneur, you constantly put out fires and focus on priorities and the next BIG thing. This means that a quick response, referral note or simple communication with a current or potential customer or patient may fall to the bottom of your “To Do” list… or be ignored completely.
Don’t Let This Happen To You!
Seriously…
When was the last time you contacted your current customers and patients just to see how they are doing without a sales message?
This builds positive relationships with the people you worked so hard to get in the door. But if you slam that door in their face, you can bet they will go to the competition. Then, when you finally realize that you haven’t communicated with them in a while, it’s too late. They are gone and sending their family and friends elsewhere, too.
They no longer know, like and trust you… if they ever did!
Yep. Ghosting as a business owner can reduce your bottom line by thousands of dollars and ruin your reputation.
Instead:
Become “real” again in 3 steps:
1. Update your list of current patients and customers.
Is your database current? If not, check it and ensure that it is. Do you have current emails, phone numbers, mailing addresses, birthdays, and other relevant information? Then, make a note to update and check your list regularly.
2. Send a note or call.
This doesn’t need to take weeks of planning. Just send an email or pick up the phone and call your current customers and ask them how they are doing. They will probably be shocked! If this is impossible, purchase a call service that will do this for you. It’s not expensive, and it will make a huge difference in keeping the customers you have.
3. Track the responses.
Note what the customers said.
Did they give you feedback about your products and services?
Did they provide a testimonial?
Did they tell you about something happening in their family or a big event in the future? Add this information to your database so that you can communicate with them on an even more personal level next time.
Rinse and repeat.
This is simple, but it works.
Why?
People are getting sick or AI, bots, indifferent customer service centers, and just dealing with any kind of business or medical office in general.
Do you know what a HUGE competitive advantage you’ll have if you just communicate with people on a human level?
An email or phone call costs very little time, money, and effort. Plus, it can provide BIG results. In fact, one call can impress your customers and patients so much that they schedule their next appointment to see you or buy more of your products and services right away. But more important, you can bet they’ll tell all of their friends and family members how “personal” your office is… and that could mean thousands of dollars in new sales.
Ghosting is costing you time, money, and resources.
When you ignore your people, they will go elsewhere and leave with a negative impression of you and your practice or business. So, instead of being an apathetic, cowardly ghoster, start communicating!
You may be on the cusp of taking your business or practice to the next level of success with just one personal phone call. Best of all, you’ll create real relationships that mean much more than any dollar amount.
