Shhh… Your Competition Isn’t Doing This!
3 Ways to Create a More Successful Business
I don’t know about you, but I deal with many kinds of people on a weekly basis. Some are hard-core sales people trying to push their products on me. Others are telemarketers, young interns, people who have been on the job far too long, etc. who really don’t like their job and are just going through the motions to take home a paycheck.
And then there are the people who are good communicators and get things done. These are the same people who tend to be successful in business and life.
Why? They are using some tactics that you, and your competitors, may not be aware of. But don’t worry. I’m about to reveal them right now. And guess what? They’ve been right in front of you the whole time and you probably just forgot about them!
3 Ways to Create a More Successful Business
1. What’s In It for Them? It’s not about you.
This one can be easy to forget, but if you’ve been focusing on making a quota, getting a media story, reaching a certain goal, or something else, it’s time to think a little differently. Before you speak to anyone online, live or via phone, ask yourself what you can give this person that will benefit them.
It may just be a compliment or kind word. It may be a free product or service, an invitation to a golf outing or a lunch date, or something else. Be creative. Instead of focusing on your desires, think about the person you are contacting first and what their needs are right now.
As Dale Carnegie said, “You can close more business in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get people interested in you.”
2. Ask How You Can Help.
And while you are thinking about benefiting someone else, why not ask, “How Can I Help You?”
Try to ask this without ulterior motives. If you ask this question and genuinely mean it, people will probably appreciate your help and kindness, and you’ll start your relationship off on the right foot. You may not believe it, but in business, and life, “what goes around, really does come around.”
3. Say Thanks!
When was the last time you reached out to someone just to thank them? This little word can go along way, and you may not be using it as much as you can.
Why not take a moment today to send a handwritten note to someone to thank them? That’s right – not an e-mail, an actual snail-mailed note!
The person on the receiving end will appreciate the thought, and you’ll get a moment to focus on what’s really important – the people in your life.
Take Action on these “Secret” Tactics Today.
These may seem like simple tactics, but if you want to build a successful business, people are going to be an important part of that process. And why not create a network of people you want to work with and trust?
Start thinking about others first, offer your help and say “thank you” whenever possible. You’ll stand out from the competition. But more important, you’ll feel better about what you’re doing and grow long-term relationships that can take your business to the next level.
