Do You Use Your PR Power?

It’s time to enjoy a competitive edge you can’t get any other way!
Are you using the power of PR, or public relations, to boost sales, awareness and credibility right now?
I ask, because when you appear in the media, influential people and publications talk about you and your products and services.
It’s not advertising. It’s third-party credibility you can’t get any other way.
Plus, if you appear in top media venues that your target audience pays attention to, and your competitors don’t, guess who is going to get all of the attention?
Specifically, I previously wrote an article for a client and got it published at no cost in a popular trade journal. Customers walked through my client’s door, specifically mentioned the article, and proceeded to purchase $94,000 worth of new orders! Hello competitive edge!
This is just one example of the Power of PR at work, but it can catapult your success! The best part is… it only takes time and effort.
I bet you’re ready to learn more…
Well, many people believe that “PR” stands for “press release.”
But have you ever distributed a press release and wondered why your phone didn’t ring with requests from new clients, customers or patients?
Well, there is a LOT more to public relations than sending out a press release.
In fact, it all comes down to content…
What Are You Writing and Promoting?
Do you have an organized process in place for all of your content?
With a content strategy, you set goals, create content within certain timelines relevant to those goals, prepare tracking mechanisms, and check to see exactly what messaging achieves results.
This is the content you use in your marketing, sales and public relations activities to convey simple, easy-to-understand messages specific to your audience.
And it all starts with…
5 Steps To PR Content Success!
1. Figure out what your target market wants.
What can you provide that no one else can? How can you solve their problems? What will specific media members want to hear from you?
Take the time to research their needs and develop your unique message.
2. Decide what kind of content will meet those needs.
Do you need to write a book, mail newsletters, create email campaigns, develop articles, post blogs and press releases that are optimized for search engines, and more? What will convey your message to your audience? Make a list of all the possibilities.
3. Develop an editorial calendar.
Add all of your content information to a simple database. Then, you can track topics, deadlines, responsible parties, links, responses, media research, etc. This editorial calendar allows everyone on your team to see what’s working, what needs to be changed, and what to prepare for in the future.
4. Implement!
This is the most important step. Write, post, pitch, and track the content as scheduled. Take action, so that you can get momentum, and results, going!
5. Rinse. Repeat.
What’s happening? Review your results and change accordingly. Test different messages, mediums and venues to see what resonates best with your audience. Then, review the results and repeat
this process.
For success, it’s essential to regularly update your content and PR activities relevant to changing trends, news and events that affect your target market.
Does this take time and effort?
Yes! But, without creating specific messaging you can track and change, you waste valuable resources.
Instead, develop a detailed content strategy.
Now, if you don’t have time for this and want the best results possible, hire an experienced copywriter who is also a public relations expert to write, research, pitch the media, and manage the entire process for you.
Give your target market the interesting and entertaining information they want, when and how they want it. Then, you can actually reach your goals and see positive results in the year ahead. And remember, if you don’t take advantage of the power of PR, your competition will!
